Just a few hours into his long prison stretch, Emmerdale’s Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) has been attacked.
Yesterday, the character went to court to learn how long he’d be behind bars for after causing the crash that killed Jimmy King (Nick Miles) and Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley).
Vinny’s mum Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) believed that he’d be out in a few years because he pleaded guilty.
Sadly, the Judge didn’t see things that way. To everyone’s shock, she sentenced Vinny to a massive 10 years in prison. She commented on how he kept the truth a secret for weeks, and said that she wanted to send him to prison for a long time to show others what may happen if they go on their phone while driving.
Towards the end of the episode though, the ITV soap aired a massive twist that suggested Vinny’s sentence could’ve been a lot less.

It was revealed that Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) bribed the Judge into sending Vinny to prison for such a long time. In return for her help, Joe gave the Judge a large amount of cash.
Joe was told a few weeks ago that Vinny would only be charged with causing Jimmy’s death, not Dawn’s. Sabotaging Vinny’s sentencing has certainly helped Joe with seeking revenge – but was that the end of his plan?
In this evening’s episode, Mandy was waiting patiently for an update on Vinny.
At the Dingle homestead, Mandy joined some of her relatives in paying tribute to beloved Zak Dingle, but worrying about Vinny meant she was very distracted.
Mandy’s phone rang, and she discovered from someone at the prison that Vinny had been attacked.
She was devastated and absolutely terrified for her boy – but was Joe responsible?
Could he have asked someone behind bars to teach Vinny another lesson?
It remains to be seen if Joe has committed yet another heinous act but, if he did orchestrate the attack and will continue to have contacts inside, Vinny’s time behind bars is most certainly going to be slow and very, very torturous.
