Dutch retail giant Ahold Delhaize said it has found no evidence that customer or employee data was stolen following a cybersecurity incident that forced the company to take several systems offline. The retailer disclosed the security issue on Monday (October 12, 2026) and confirmed the latest findings in an update the following day.
The incident has disrupted digital services and raised concerns about the impact on supermarket operations. Ahold Delhaize, which operates Albert Heijn, the Netherlands' largest supermarket chain, also has major retail businesses across Europe and the United States.
Systems Taken Offline as a Precaution
Ahold Delhaize said it identified a security issue within its network and took some systems offline to protect its infrastructure while investigations continued. The company is working with internal teams and external cybersecurity specialists to assess the situation and limit further disruption.
In its latest update, the retailer said it had begun a controlled restart of certain systems. However, it has not disclosed detailed technical information about the incident, citing the need to protect its security measures and avoid interfering with the investigation.
The company has not established publicly whether customer information was accessed. Its statement that there is currently no evidence of data theft should therefore not be interpreted as confirmation that the incident has been fully resolved.
Online Services and Store Operations Affected
The disruption has affected services at Albert Heijn, including online grocery ordering and deliveries. The retailer's physical stores remain open, although the availability of certain products may vary as its operations recover.
The company also reported progress in restoring some functions. Digital shelf labels have returned to displaying regular prices, and the general Bonus Card is working again. However, customers have been unable to use certain personalized discounts and promotional savings
Ahold Delhaize said several distribution centres were operating, while warning that some fresh products could be less readily available than longer-lasting goods, frozen items and bread.

No Confirmed Link to Attacks on French Supermarkets
The incident occurred around the same time as a separate cyberattack affecting refrigeration systems at hundreds of supermarkets in France. Those attacks caused refrigerators and freezers to heat up, resulting in spoiled food and fires at some locations.
The timing has raised questions about whether the incidents are connected. However, the Dutch National Cyber Security Centre has said there is no reason to believe the Dutch incident is linked to similar attacks elsewhere. Ahold Delhaize has not announced a definitive cause or identified those responsible.
