The NFC North has been a fascinating division this year as everyone chases the undefeated Minnesota Vikings (5-0). Second place in the NFC North is up for grabs this weekend when the Green Bay Packers (4-2) visit Ford Field to take on the Detroit Lions (3-2). Green Bay won both meetings last year 27-13 and 31-24 after the Lions swept the Packers in 2024.
Detroit is coming off a bye week and with Dan Campbell the Lions are 2-2-1 after a break in the regular season (2-3-1 including playoffs). The Lions routed the Cardinals 45-21 in the previous outing. Detroit outgained Arizona in yards 412-327 and averaged 6.3 yards per play versus 4.7. The Lions were awesome on fourth downs with a perfect 4-for-4 mark, which brings Detroit to second behind only the Saints (1.7) with 1.6 fourth-down conversion per game. Detroit is tied with Buffalo for an NFL-leading 32.8 points per game and averages the fourth-most yards per game (393.8).
It’s been all good on that side of the ball, but the defense has been leaky, ranking bottom five in plays of 20-plus yards allowed and explosive plays permitted. Jordan Love has been on fire lately, so Detroit likely needed that extra bye week to prep since Green Bay went 2-0 versus Detroit last year and Love had a 6:0 TD to INT ratio.
In the last two games of this season, Love has 643 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in wins over Chicago (31-7) and Dallas (23-13). Love has completed 48 out of 72 (66.7%) passes in that span and is even better going back three games (70/102, 68.6%). However, he hasn’t had much help on the ground game. Green Bay ranks 31st in rushing attempts per game (20.8), last in rushing yards per game (59.8), and last in yards per rush (2.9).
All of that could be changing soon with Josh Jacobs back. Jacobs returned to practice this week after missing the first six weeks of the season by being on the NFL’s commissioner-exempt list. Jacobs has been able to do everything except play or practice with the team since joining the exempt list. Jacobs could still miss games as the NFL has ongoing investigation pending his misdemeanor battery charge from earlier in the year. His status is questionable, and if he’s a go, then the Packers may receive a much-needed boost, or he will be a short-yardage option and a decoy for play-action at the very least.
Let’s dive into the numbers and see if we can’t find an additional sweat or two.

Latest Game Odds for Packers at Lions
The latest odds courtesy of DraftKings:
· Moneyline: Detroit Lions (-162), Green Bay Packers (+136)
· Spread: Lions -3 (-105)
· Total: 53.5
The spread opened Detroit -2.5 and the game total at 50.5. With Detroit coming off a bye week and being 4-2 to the Over following a break in Dan Cambell’s coaching career, it’s no surprise the total has ticked up from 50.5 to 53.5. If Josh Jacobs is ruled available, I’d expect Green Bay +3 to disappear and this close at Detroit -1.5 or -2.5.

Expert picks & predictions for Packers at Lions
Vaughn Dalzell (@VmoneySports) leans Jordan Love Under 36.5 pass attempts:
“If Josh Jacobs returns, I don’t expect Jordan Love‘s pass attempt prop to be 36.5 on Sunday. Love had 22 and 30 pass attempts last season against Detroit and 22, 39, 32, and 36 since 2023, so based on past matchups, this is a good Under spot. Green Bay has one of the worst run games in the NFL ranking last in rushing yards per game (59.8) and yards per carry (2.9), plus second to last in attempts (20.8). Love has had to throw a ton, including 41 attempts last week, marking the third time he went over 40 this season. If Jacobs is back, they’ll give him a few carries, but if he is out, the ground game could look better against Detroit. The Lions have shown they allow a ton of explosive plays and if Green Bay finds any rushing success in the first half, they will go back to that. I like Love to go under 36.5 pass attempts. I will hold out hope that Jacobs returns this week and we get some closing line value on Love’s Under.”

Quarterback matchup for Packers at Lions
· Detroit: Jared Goff – Goff is one of three quarterbacks to start at least three games this season and not throw an interception (Mariota, Huntley). Goff has a 12:0 TD-to-INT ratio and has thrown for at least 269 yards in four straight games and has multi-touchdown performances in four of five games on the young season. Goff ran for his first score against Arizona for his second game with four touchdowns this season. Goff has the most red zone pass attempts (40), the most passing yards (1,485), and third in EPA (+57.8). He is both top 10 in passer rating versus man and zone coverage this season.
· Green Bay: Jordan Love – Love has his five-game streak of two passing touchdowns snapped last week against Dallas with one touchdown. Love threw for 276 yards and went over his passing prop in four out of six games with three outings of 300-plus yards. Love trails only Goff in passing yards (1,410), ranks third in red zone attempts (31), fourth in deep ball attempts (27), plus has the most passes dropped in the league (13). Love’s been under consistent pressure this season with 40 pressured throws (6th-most) and a 47.5% completion rate on those throws (21st). With Jacobs potentially back, Love could thrive even more in play-action settings. Love ranks second in play-action completion percentage (67.4%) and fourth in play-action catchable ball rate (72.1%). His hot play should continue against a Lions defense that offers little resistance.
