Bangladesh’s remittance earnings crossed $10.7 billion in the first four months of the current fiscal year, providing continued support to the country’s foreign exchange inflows as overseas Bangladeshis sent home more money than they did during the corresponding period a year earlier.
The country received $10.72 billion in remittances between July 1 and October 24 of FY2026-27, marking an 11.9 per cent increase from $9.58 billion recorded during the same period of the previous fiscal year, according to the latest Bangladesh Bank (BB) data.
Remittance inflows also remained strong in October, with expatriate Bangladeshis sending $2.13 billion in the first 24 days of the month,
compared with $2.002 billion during the corresponding period in October 2025. This represents year-on-year growth of 6.7 per cent.
During the six-day period from October 19 to 24, the country received $294 million in remittances, the central bank’s update showed.
The sustained growth in remittance inflows is an important source of foreign currency for Bangladesh, supporting its external payments position and helping meet demand for dollars amid continuing pressure on the country’s balance of payments.
The latest figures indicate that remittance earnings have maintained an upward trend in the opening months of the fiscal year, although the pace of inflows may fluctuate depending on overseas employment, seasonal factors and the timing of transfers.
The Bangladesh Bank data cover remittances received through October 24, rather than the full month of October.
