During our recent visit to Portimão, we noticed beautiful pink crochet and textile decorations along the Ribeirinha.

Palm trees wrapped in pink fabric, decorated benches and handmade installations have brought a different look to this popular part of the city.
The decorations are part of Outubro Rosa (Pink October), a campaign that takes place every October to raise awareness of breast cancer and remind women of the importance of regular screening and early diagnosis.
The initiative is associated with Associação Dar Amor, a local organisation that supports people affected by cancer, as well as their families. Through various activities and community projects, the association helps bring people together and raise awareness of the challenges faced by cancer patients.
These installations are a lovely and unusual way to draw attention to such an important cause.
Pink October is also being marked in Portimão with other activities throughout the month. One of them is the Outubro Rosa Walk/Run, scheduled for 25 October, starting at 10am from the Antiga Lota along the Ribeirinha.

Participants can choose between 5 km and 8 km routes. Taking part is free with registration, while an optional €5 kit helps support the Portuguese Cancer League's breast cancer screening programme.
If you are visiting Portimão this October, take a walk along the Ribeirinha and have a look at the pink decorations. They are a beautiful reminder of an important message.
