Under new guidelines, hosts on the short-term rental site Airbnb can set seven standard house rules, as well as make other “reasonable” requests.
The company says guests who pay a cleaning fee can no longer be asked to do tasks that take a lot of time or effort and are typically performed by a cleaner, such as taking out the trash, doing laundry or putting away dishes.
“House rules help guests understand what hosts expect, but we’ve heard from our users that they can be confusing, burdensome and difficult to manage,” Airbnb told the BBC.
The new rules apply to all bookings from November 20.
