President Mahama reaffirms government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery

President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned a new 85-bed ward complex at the Ghana Police Hospital in Accra, marking a significant addition to the hospital’s healthcare infrastructure and efforts to improve medical care for police personnel and the general public.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Mahama reaffirmed Government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery within the security services and announced plans to complete the hospital’s long-delayed expansion project.

According to the President, the expansion would add 106 beds to the hospital’s capacity and provide essential facilities, including an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), an accident and emergency centre, surgical theatres, consulting rooms and advanced diagnostic equipment.

He also announced the donation of two ambulances to strengthen emergency response and patient care at the facility.

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, described the commissioning as an investment in the welfare of personnel who dedicate their lives to protecting the country. He said the facility demonstrated the government’s commitment to strengthening public institutions and ensuring that security personnel has access to quality healthcare.

The Minister expressed appreciation to the President for his support towards improving healthcare infrastructure and the working conditions of the Ghana Police Service. He noted that the new ward would serve not only police officers but also their families and members of the public, making it an important addition to healthcare delivery in the country.

The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, also welcomed the facility, emphasising the importance of the health and well-being of police personnel to the effective discharge of their duties.

The new ward complex comprises separate male and female medical and surgical wards, as well as dedicated paediatric wards for boys and girls. It is equipped with diagnostic and patient-monitoring equipment, an in-house laboratory, a pharmacy and other supporting facilities.

The commissioning of the new ward forms part of ongoing efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure within the security services and provide better medical care for those who serve and protect the nation.
