Metallica have shared pro-shot video of performances from their October 1st kickoff at the Las Vegas Sphere, including “The Call of Ktulu” and “…And Justice for All.”
The “Ktulu” performance video features the new orchestral introduction to the song as well as the brooding video of an absolutely enormous Cthulhu rising menacingly from the sea.
The band sounds incredible, with Kirk Hammett locked in for great runs on the guitar and Lars Ulrich delivering hammering heavy metal drum work. The star of the performance, however, aside from the monster Cthulhu, is Robert Trujillo, who does a perfect job conjuring the mythic magic and rock ‘n’ roll mysticism of Cliff Burton. It ended with a dedication to their former bass player who passed away forty years ago.
Meanwhile, “…And Justice for All” features a mythic-scale reproduction of their classic stage dressing from their famed breakout tour for the album of the same name, with an enormous statue of the bound Lady Justice (aka Doris) projected above the band torn apart at the climax of the song.
Metallica’s “Life Burns Faster” residency at the Sphere runs through March 2027. They have additionally announced a new 2027 leg of their ongoing M72 tour. Get tickets here.
