ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested Pakistani software developer Faheem Akram in Lahore over his alleged involvement in a $126 million fraud involving counterfeit US postage labels, officials said.
According to the NCCIA, Faheem Akram allegedly operated a website to sell counterfeit US postage labels, causing estimated losses of more than $126 million to the United States Postal Service (USPS).
NCCIA officials said the suspect had been wanted by US authorities in connection with the alleged fraud, which involved the online sale of more than five million counterfeit postage labels.
Addressing a press conference, NCCIA Lahore Zone Additional Director Atif Ameer said the suspect had operated the website LabelsBank.com from August 2023 to September 2026, marketing and selling counterfeit US postage labels online.
Ameer said the website allegedly bypassed the US Postal Service’s official system by offering counterfeit labels at uniform prices for packages of different types and sizes. The suspect allegedly sold approximately 5.1 million labels to customers in the United States while operating from Pakistan.
According to the official, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) traced the suspect and shared information with Pakistani authorities, leading to the investigation and subsequent arrest.
The NCCIA spokesperson said investigators had uncovered the use of 16 bank accounts belonging to the suspect’s family to transfer money allegedly obtained through the scheme.
