PETALING JAYA: The Navy has deployed 100 personnel and five boats from its base in Lumut to assist with disaster relief following flash floods in several areas on Pangkor island today.
Three fast combat boats and two rigid-hull inflatable boats were used to transport personnel and deliver aid to affected areas, while a naval helicopter is on standby to provide aerial support, Bernama reported.
Western fleet command said the navy had prepared 300 food packs and 425 bottles of mineral water for distribution to those involved in cleanup operations, including navy personnel, teachers, representatives of government agencies, and private individuals.
The cleanup efforts are focused on SK Seri Pangkor, as well as a mosque and residents’ homes severely affected by the floods and covered in thick layers of mud.
Floods in the Larut, Matang and Selama district have left 156 flood victims from 50 families seeking shelter at relief centres, the state disaster management committee said.
