Back when she was first lady, Michelle Obama made waves with her White House fashion—with help from her stylist, Meredith Koop. Instead of just your standard pantsuits or dresses, Obama pulled out vibrant and meaningful designs from the likes of Missoni, Roksanda, and Monique Lhuillier. Not to mention, she used her position to spotlight Black designers, like Tracy Reese, Duro Olowu, and Laura Smalls. Now, while she may have ended her time as FLOTUS nearly 10 years ago, the Becoming author still has a knack for finding pieces that put an artful spin on traditional businesswear.
That was the case on Thursday evening, when Obama was seen leaving the restaurant Darling in West Hollywood, where she wore a tweed, ladylike jacket with playful ribbon embellishments.

Michelle Obama is seen in Los Angeles on October 15.
The navy-and-white design appeared to be this piece from Maison Common, which is defined by its shaggy ribbon fringe that decorates the hems and trails down the front like fur.
Obama paired the statement jacket with a set of blue jeans, while tying her hair into a long braided ponytail. Finally, she accessorized with stacks of silver earrings.
The New York Times bestseller pulled out her fringe moment for a girls’ night out with Megan Thee Stallion and La La Anthony, who both joined her for dinner at Darling.
Obama has been linked to Megan Thee Stallion since the rapper was a guest on her IMO podcast this past August. Meanwhile the former first lady has been friends with La La Anthony since the two took the stage at the Essence Festival together back in 2019.
For her part, Anthony wore a white Balenciaga tee and distressed jeans under a long black-leather trench, while Megan Thee Stallion chose a flowy, wine-colored set. Talk about a stylish squad.
