Napoli crashed to a surprise defeat at the hands of Venezia, with Akor Adams grabbing the only goal to hand the Serie A strugglers their first points of the season.
That made it two defeats in five days for Massimiliano Allegri's side, who went down 3-1 to Villarreal in the Champions League in midweek and followed it with an even more disappointing result at Stadio Pierluigi Penzo.
The Partenopei dominated possession throughout but were wasteful up front and paid in full for some sloppy defending when Adams broke free at the start of the second half.
A slow burn of a game livened up when Redouane Halhal's ragged challenge on Giovane Nascimento saw tempers flare, but even that could bring out Napoli's ruthless streak, Lorenzo Lucca botching the best of the opportunities.
They paid the price four minutes after the restart, undone by a route one attack. Simon Sohm launched a long ball over the top with Adams in pursuit and Amir Rrahmani the last man. He made a mess of his attempts to snuff out the danger, flat footed as the ball dropped as Adams muscled in.
The Nigeria striker's effort was deflected, leaving Alex Meret little chance.
With 54 minutes gone, Allegri sent on Kevin De Bruyne and Rasmus Hojlund in a bid to lift things.
Hojlund made an instant impact, seeing one effort well saved before being fouled in the box by Halhal. De Bruyne stepped up but saw his right-footed penalty well covered by Filip Stankovic, diving low to his left.
Venezia continued to weather the storm, Rrahmani missing a glorious opportunity with 20 minutes remaining and Scott McTominay unable to make his aerial presence count.
Benoit Badiashile could have put it right in stoppage time but Stankovic made sure not to give up his hard-earned clean sheet.
