Kohima, Oct 13: The Inner Line Regulation Commission (ILRC) of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has backed the Angami Public Organisation’s (APO) resolution on the Inner Line Permit (ILP), calling for stricter enforcement of safeguards under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873.
In a press statement, the ILRC welcomed the APO’s time-bound approach to addressing alleged illegal immigration and ensuring compliance with legal requirements governing employment, services, documentation and tenancy arrangements in Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland.
The commission clarified that its concerns were not directed at non-indigenous people who enter, work, trade and reside in Nagaland lawfully, but at illegal immigration and violations of existing legal provisions.
Urging other Naga tribal organisations and apex bodies to join the initiative, the ILRC called for a united and coordinated approach to the issue. It also urged the state government to respond promptly and take necessary action.
The commission said its representation to Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio, submitted on October 1 following a national seminar on the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, was still awaiting a response from the Chief Minister’s Office.
The ILRC said organisations and individuals seeking the full text of the representation could obtain a copy by contacting its official WhatsApp number, 8413899928.
Reiterating its position, the commission called on the state government to take timely steps to strengthen the enforcement of existing legal safeguards.
