The Keralam Health department has proposed creating 510 additional casualty medical officer posts in 141 government hospitals to strengthen emergency care and to ensure the safety of patients, Health Minister K. Muraleedharan informed the Assembly.
Replying to a submission, the Minister said 626 casualty medical officer posts were currently sanctioned across 142 government hospitals, which were insufficient to meet the requirements. As a result, many hospitals were being forced to deploy just one doctor per shift.
Against this backdrop, the Director of Health has submitted a proposal for the creation of additional posts, which is currently under consideration by the Finance department, the Minister said.
